Recall: Ortovox transceivers
As of July 10th 2018, Ortovox has announced a precautionary recall of 3+ Avalanche transceivers (reviewed here). The recall is due to a software error discovered by Safety Acadamy Partners. They found that "in some rare situations, temporary disruption of the transmission function may occur on our 3+ avalanche transceivers running software version 2.1.". This error can lead to delays in the search process, a time when every second counts. The error became apparent during internal testing, and there have been no known incidents involving the error. The recall is a precautionary measure in order to avoid unnecesary risk falling upon the consumer.
This precautionary recall is exclusive to Ortovox 3+ transceivers running software version 2.1. No other models (S1+, S1, and ZOOM) are affected by the software error, nor are 3+ devices running software versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, and 2.2.
About 20,000 units have been sold between October 2010 to April 2018. Consumers are urged to immediately stop the use of the recalled devices and return them for free repair which includes free shipping. The following model numbers are effected: 1137000001, 1137000002, and 1137000006. The product may also be identified by the UPC 4250091798461.
