Ski Mountaineering Olympic Debut in 2026?

Sure, it's fun to laugh at the folks over there at the starting line with head to toe spandex onesies, skinny carbon ski's, and a general consensus that prefers the up. But the truth is, ski mountaineering is one of the coolest forms of race sports out there - and is directly related to the ski touring we love.

The International Olympics Council announced recently that the gears are in motion to have ski mountaineering debut at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

While relatively niche in much of Canada and the US. Skimo racing is deepy rooted in European skiing culture. Hence, during some of the trial events the Italian team cleaned up all 5 events.

The Council announced that there will be five medal events — sprint and individual for men and women, along with a mixed gender relay.
