Ski Tuning Basics
Time for the mid season tune-up? Ever wondered the exact specifications to look for in a quality ski tune? Check out this article by SKI magazine. Some simple things to look for:
1. Make sure your bases are flat, rather than concave or convex. You can check this with a level or a straight edge. Also look at the base structure; if the pattern doesn't appear consistent your bases may not be flat...
2. Check the sidewalls, if the sidewalls do not appear stripped to reveal fresh plastic your edge bevel may be incorrect...
3. Most ski edges are beveled at 2 degrees - though hard to actually check without the proper tool, how do they feel? Over beveled edges may feel extra grabby and overly aggressive. Under-beveled edges may feel the opposite.
