Ten Commandments for Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain
And lo, the seasons did change to winter. Tall mountains be-dusted with layers of the finest crystallized water, winds that blast through to the bone, and the hoots and hollers of skiers and riders; all these are signs that the time to shred hath finally arrived.Whilst shredding in a backcountry environment, one must take special care to protect themselves and others. Yes, we all know it, but that doesn't mean we are all good at it. And even if we are good at it, maybe we can share that skill and knowledge with those who could use a pointer in the right direction. Bruce Tremper, author of "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain", put together the 10 commandments of low-risk travel for the 3rd edition of the aforementioned book. The folks at mountaineers.org have edited that list for the convenience of the internet reader, so check it out here, and don't be smote by the wrath of an avalanche.
