The Last Skier Standing Is An Insane Race - VIDEO
This year’s ‘Last Skier Standing’ event at Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine was held Friday February 10th, and this fourth edition was presented by Norrona. The course is approximately 1.5 miles long with 1,200 feet of gain and the object is not to be the fastest but to go the longest.Competitors are given one hour to skin up and ski back down the mountain. This is repeated every hour until there is only one skier still able to make it up and back in 60 minutes. The winner, is crowned only when he/she does one more lap than the second-to-last person to drop out.
138 people entered this year’s race and after 63 laps Danny Romano was the Last Skier Standing. He covered an impressive 189 miles and 72,500ft of elevation gain over the course of two days.
