Brand agnosticism. An oddity in today's landscape -- VIDEO
I came across something that I thought was pretty cool yesterday. It's the "pause" series of short videos put out by Backbone Media and the Camp 4 Collective (at least that's who I think puts them out). What's interesting with these segments is the fact that no brands/logos/endorsements appear. They claim it's a reaction to social media (and the web in general) where virtually everything features a brand in some way. We here at Backcountry Skiing Canada are not entirely guilt-free ourselves.
Remember the days when the logo appeared on the inside of your jacket rather than prominently displayed on your chest? When what mattered most was the was the quality of the gear, not the brand? What strikes me about this video, and others in the series, is that it feels so clean. There aren't even any "brought-to-yous" in the intro or extro. As viewers, we can focus on the images and the music. Every gear company should fund brand-free footage like this. It makes a lot of sense--even from a business perspective.
