Canadian Winter - SOAP BOX
It's been a wild one this year. Seems like the whole of Canada is geting it's fair share. I am definitely happy to be living where we seem to love having as much of it as possible (well at least most of us ) and driving around in crazy conditions with snow all over our car puts a huge smile on our faces.
The unpredictability of it all makes for a lifelong learning process. I mean I always looked at the forecast growing up and was stoked when the flakes came down hard, but now I look at it with a different set of eyes wondering what will come out of the upcoming days. When out ski touring, I enjoy how it can change so quickly. One day your skiing heavy, damp snow and the next day its -23 C and your whining about your cold hands and face. This season has been no different. One morning dealing with frozen water pipes, and in the same day skiing waist deep snow that fills up your jacket with every turn. Shovelling 25cm's of snow in your driveway with a smile on your face and by the time you get back from skiing and it has mostly melted and turned to slush.
As an avid backcountry skier, the constant change is good example of how often my expectations can be exceeded. I sit having a coffee in the morning thinking, oh it's been busy this weekend, or there hasn't been that much snow, or its gonna be DEEP ! And once I get up there and take a good look around I realize that wow the snow is still really good, or that was a run I've never done before, or even; that snow was sooo much deeper than I expected. Some days I just go out and sus it out, to see what I can find and more than often my expectations get exceeded.
This winter has been a crazy one as far as weather is concerned, and although it might be warming up again this week (after a few fantastic days of pow), I am excited to see what the rest of this Canadian winter will bring!!!
Happy skiing/riding everyone!!
