And please no condescending responses about how snow blades suck (in my online reasearch this is mostly what I've found). I'm simply wondering if it would be pheasible to use the "skating" technique with snow blades for cross country runs. I remember them being quite easy to get around on on flat ground on my way to the lifts, simply wondering if using them cross country would also be easy. I think it would be fun and enjoyable to "skate" along on the wooded trails.

Have you considered investment in actual skate skis (cross country skies intended for skating) and boots?  I quite enjoy them.  

 I maintain a few miles of xc trails around my home and I would think that the level of compaction from a resort snowcat/groomer would greatly exceed anything away from a resort. Late spring icy conditions maybe but I am usually wishing for more surface area (longer or wider skis) to get a little glide going.
