April is the best time of year to tour in the Canadian Rockies.  The base is usually most stable around that time, we get more frequent snow on average than in the colder months and there are lots of nice weather days.  I've had by far my best days skiing at Lake Louise in April and May.

While it is up for debate where the best ski touring is in Canada, be it the coast or interior of BC, come April and May there is only one real choice; the continental divide. The altitude of the peaks, and usually cold weather means the divide has the longest season.  The long tours like the Wapta or the Jasper to Lake Louise are best done in April or May.  There is lots of spectacular ski touring on the Jasper Highway (93N) such as Mount Hector and the Columbia Ice fields.

Closest Hospitals would be Banff, and there might be one in Jasper.  Good luck and have a blast.
