Known before you go.
It's been great early season conditions for those who are willing to put in the extra effort and your instagram feed is filled with braggers. Myself included. I have been doing a fair amount of skiing over the last few weeks and have spent some time in Rogers pass and Mcrea. This year stands out from the others. The number of people in the backcountry is staggering. For the first time we saw a group of 19 while many other parties were in the area. Some days 50 to 60 people will be clustered in the same zone. With many close calls in the Rogers pass over the weekend ( including a size 3 skier accidental )and some serious precipitation in the forecast, I can't help be feel nervous about what incident I might read in the near future.
Skier accidental, Bruins ridge. Rogers pass.
Know before you go if a great resource for some backcountry basics. I feel that if most people realized how serious the implications of a mistake can be, then we would see less bold lines in questionable conditions being skied. So share this with your friends on Facebook or e-mail the link to someone interested in ducking the lines this winter.
