Skiers looking for a more pure skiing experience can save money compared to heliskiing packages, but save time and get more runs compared to a strict ski touring trip.
Revelstoke, British Columbia, August 10, 2011 – Ski touring is a popular pursuit among some skiers searching for solitude and a more “pure” skiing experience where one “earns” their runs. Ski touring entails a group of skiers setting out into the backcountry under their own power and climbing the hills unassisted that they will later ski down. While being able to enjoy the nature’s silence and the satisfaction of accomplishing everything under one’s own power are the major advantages of ski touring, the drawbacks are the amount of time it takes, and the amount of gear that skiers need to bring along with them. Mica Heliskiing now offers heli touring as a compromise for those skiers who would like to experience the satisfaction of ski touring, but don’t want to take a lot of time getting to the runs or haul the extra gear.
With Mica Heliskiing’s heli touring packages, skiers can experience the fine dining and deluxe lodging afforded to skiers purchasing heliskiing packages, but for about half the price. Those choosing the heli touring package will be picked up at the lodge in the morning in an A-Star helicopter and flown out to a new area to explore. Skiers opting for heli touring will already be skiing runs while those who are ski touring would still be skiing in from the entrance valleys. At the end of the day, skiers are picked up and returned to the lodge. Overnight camping is not necessary, so skiers don’t have to bother with heavy packs, and can just focus on the skiing. Mica heliskiing also gives heli touring skiers the option of customizing their trips, so if they want to be picked up in the middle of the day to try a new location, or even add some heliskiing runs in during the day, it can be done.
When the day is finished, heli touring skiers will be returned by helicopter to their accommodations at the Mica Lodge. There they will be able to unwind with a massage, a soak in one of the two outdoor hot tubs, and a delicious gourmet meal.
