PHOTO COMP - \"Crux Ridge\"
On the 5th day of the Bonnington Range Traverse, en route from Colony to Empire Peaks via the narrow crux ridge. We spent a somewhat tense hour (or what felt like an hour) or so on the ridge digging steps through the steep section trying to find a safe way up. Avalanche conditions were quite volatile at the time, we had remotely triggered and ski-cut several avalanches on the way through the range as the traverse had commenced immediately after a large storm.
Looking below us we saw hulking crown-lines and massive debris piles, not the kind of thing that instills much of a sense of comfort. The three of us had to work as a team to manage our risks safely and negotiate our way through some touchy terrain. Thankfully we had high-pressure and blue skies the entire way through, oh and plenty of deep turns on the northerly aspects as well. It was certainly a learning experience and an adventure thanks to some good friends, weather and snow.
Thanks Ullr
