Photo Comp -- Tough Judging Job & Thanks to All
The Backcountry Skiing Canada team is immensely pleased to be able to announce the winners of the Expose Yourself Photo Comp. Thanks very much to David Lussier, lead guide at Summit Mountain Guides, and Kari Medig, photographer extraordinaire, for their work as judges. A super big, big thanks also goes out to our partners in the project for providing such excellent prizes to the lucky winners. These partners are: Retallack Lodge, ROAM, Whitewater Resort and Valhalla Pure.
I also acted as a judge and can tell you, selecting the winners from over 100 entries was no easy task. I wish we had more prizes so everyone with an entry could get something. We really appreciate skiers and boarders sharing their stories with us and hope that visitors to our site got as much of a kick out of it as we did. As well as entertain, all these entries will live-on and contribute to the beta for the different backcountry skiing lines they each portray.
Here are a few comments from the judges on each of the winners:

"Photo captures movement and energy of snow, some of the reasons we go touring. Writing invited reasons for dipping under the rope."
"This is a classic ski shot. It's got it all, great composition, a blue day (a rarity on the coast), great pow and the skier is really ripping hard. It's made even better by the interesting texture of the snow and the massive cornice behind the skier. Sick photo!"
"Lovely photo with textures and colours. Nice light touch on the story"

"I really like this photo. It shows the quieter side of skiing. I like how the photographer chose black and white for this photo as well, it really brings out the texture in the snow and emphasizes the beauty of the landscape. Nice work."
"Photos showed interesting texture, contrast and raw alpine scenery. Pictures captured the theme of the writing, relationship between people and the mountains they were exploring."To check out the entry and sponsor, click here.
