Early Season on the Icefield Parkway
We got up on the Icefields Parkway again on November 12th. Below treeline the surface was temperature affected making for only slightly more challenging turns over and around shallow obstacles. In the alpine boot top blower was sitting on a firm rain/temperature crust. The cold snap on the 10th and 11th made for some impressive frost.
The snow pack is still thin and the ice is thinner. Might be in more danger of drowning crossing a lake than getting caught in an avalanche. Maybe that’s what makes the early season fun. Or maybe it’s because expectations are low… any turns at all are sweet, juicy, wonderful turns.
