Backcountry Skiing at Ice Creek Lodge
Our week here at Ice Creek Lodge is almost coming to an end and what a week. We had a thaw on day one with an epic recovery on day two, snow and lots of it. On Day three there was more snow and no wind so things have been preserved well in the alpine and below the lodge in the trees as well. We have been able to get up high and ski some of Ice Creek's couloirs (and there are plenty) under the guidance of owner and lead guide Russel. There is more snow in the forecast today and Thursday so the skiing should only get better. Ice Creek Lodge is situated at 6150' just above tree line and just below alpine so there is plenty of options should the stability be good or bad. Being able to ski above the lodge allows a nice ski back at the end of the day when legs are tired or like we did yesterday you can finish the day with a 1000' climb above the lodge and have a beautiful 2200' descent to valley bottom and then a short 800' climb home for appetizers and a sauna.
