Emerald Lake
The hike from Evans beach to Emerald lake takes about 3 hours along a shaded and well groomed path. You stay cool from a rushing creek that follows your side almost the entire way and if it’s the right time of year, small fairy like flowers blanket the forest floor. To get there you can either jump in your canoe and launch from Slocan or walk the Evans creek path for 7km until you find the beach. Head up through the forest and past the waterfall, you’ll see a sign that reads Beatrice Trail soon enough. There are nice camping spots up at Emerald Lake, so bring a tent to enjoy a peaceful night.
This small hike is only one third of the way to Beatrice, an even larger lake. It gets a little steeper and more difficult the further you go, but is well worth it if you’ve got the energy and time.
