Pulpit to CBC Trail
I wanted to work up a sweat to test out a couple new cooling shirts from Mountain Hardwear, so last week I did the hike from Pulpit to the CBC Tower. The review on those tops will be out in the next few weeks, so watch for it on the site!
The trail from the parking lot to Pulpit is well maintained, and the busiest part of the hike. It’s also worth noting that on this portion of the trip we saw a brown bear out in a meadow about 20 meters from the trail. It presented no danger, but is something to be aware of especially if you're bringing your dog.
If the view from Pulpit just isn’t enough, you can carry on up to the flagpole. There are two paths, we took the intermediate one which was well maintained and had no snow. It took about 2 hours to reach the Flagpole which had a spectacular view of Nelson and Kootenay Lake.
Feeling good, we decided to continue on from the flagpole to the CBC tower. Unfortunately this trail has not recently been maintained, so we were instantly crawling over large logs, through brush, and constantly searching for the path. It was kind of a bummer. We made it about halfway to the tower before giving up. On the hike down we spoke to the trail maintenance crew who stated that they were not contracted to clear the CBC tower path, and didn’t think it would be done anytime soon. That being said, the hike to Flagpole was well worth my time and I highly recommend it.
