TR: Kootenay Pass - Jan 2, 2011
This morning I was awoke to a knocking on my door and a question; to ski or not to ski? Kootenay Pass was the objective and the answer was yes. Still recovering from a New Years hangover and reluctant to awake, I slowly slugged my way out of bed. That being said there is no better way to cure a hangover than skiing some powder snow under the sun!
An hour later we were on the road. Our crew consisted of friends including James, Lo, Mitch, Jesse, Dave and myself. Arriving a little late we quickly threw on the skins and headed up the hills South of the Highway. We quickly noticed that every feature we glanced at looked as if it would be an amazing ski. It was a hard decision to make but when we reached the ridge we decided on what would be our first zone.
The stability was all time and we were able to open up all the way to the bottom. Blower snow made for a great first decent of the new year! After strapping the skins back on, we headed North on the bench and towards what would be our second zone filled with pow.
After we all had our way with zone 2 we headed back to the parking lot. We all agreed we had a started the new year off in a great way and discussed the days turns over an icy cold beer. Parting ways, Jesse was to make his way back to Calgary and the rest of us made the short trek home to Nelson. Much more to come in 2011!
