Comp: Revelstoke Mountain Resort Slackcountry
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is well known for the great skiing that can be had within its boundaries, perhaps what is less well known is the skiing that lies outside of its boundaries. I've spent the past couple of days kicking around the the hill that lies a few of kilometers from my house. While the snow has been scant as of late, there still remains a fair bit of untracked love to be had within a short walk of the lift served terrain.
The Brown Shorts chute was not one of those places, but it is one of the first places to look if you're looking for a quick adrenaline hit.
RMR's cat ski tenure lies to the south of the ski area, but an access route along the ridgetop allows for ski tourists to head south towards Ghost Peak and not rock the boat (or should I say cat?).
Over the past couple of days, our ski plans took us into the Greely Creek drainage.
Mt. Mackenzie's East face is nothing short of a Freerider's paradise—big, steep and jibbable… I guess that's why they held the recent FWT finals there.

It's southwest face has a more well rounded appeal—even families with a bit of backcountry savy could have a picnic on top and it's all within a half an hour's bootpack from the subpeak.
One of the fun sport skiing lines in the East bowl.

Settled pow, fun and carvable.
Dropping into untracked goodness two weeks deep into a dry spell within a forty minute flat tour from a ski hill…
Ghost Peak and the goods.
Powder.
I am from the East coast, I love dust on crust. High pressure and a small refresh is all we've gotten lately, but I'll take it.
After spending a fun day shredding in the sun, it was time to walk home via Kokanee Ridge.
I didn't do the math, but I left my house at 8:15 am on my bike. I was skiing by 9:30am. Once I was touring, I can't say I crossed much more than a track or two and after all that, I was home by 4:45 pm. Living in Revelstoke is great; skiing here, well, it's even better!
