Icefield Parkway Conditions
Saturday Jan 4th we got out for a short day near Bow Summit . With the winds throughout the day things felt very chilly.
The wind had already redistributed much of the ~20cm storm snow that had fallen since Jan. 2nd, with the transport depths ranged from 10 to 60cm.
The wind pressed snow was gaining some cohesion and we experienced some deep hollow whoomps (thankfully in low angle terrain). A hasty at 2300m on a loaded east aspect showed a resistant planar shear at the base of the storm snow down 60cm in the moderate range. We observed a recent natural point release from extreme terrain that ran 300m down the fan with no propogation.
Ski quality was good with mid boot creamy turns in the pressed snow.
Hoping some more snow will follow the current avi cycle!
