Ken Jones Classic Ski Mountaineering Challenge
The Alpine Club of Canada is presenting the Ken Jones Classic Ski Mountaineering Challenge at Lake Louise Saturday March 245th 2012.
Full details:
Craig, Jay, and Rocket - your Louise Snow Safety crew - have suggested a course that promises to be the best yet on the SMCC Canadian Cup Calendar. Their idea honors the memory of Ken Jones, Canada’s first mountain guide and the patron of the nearby Skoki ski area. Come ski the area like he did – under you own power, in the company of friends.
This year’s race will provide two course options on Saturday 24th March. The Youth and Enduro courses will climb from Whitehorn Lodge, over the Summit, to Richardson’s Ridge, and back to the Base Area finish by way of Temple Lodge – approximately 620 metres / 2000 feet of climbing and descending. The Race/Elite course will add in an ascent through Rock Garden, over Larch, and a descent of Elevator Shaft to give a legend-in-the-making 5000+ feet of vert. Both routes exit down the ski out, for fun final skates and tucks to the finish.
Registration for the Saturday race is $70 online (19 and under Youth only $35) and includes lift ticket, prizes, awards, and gifts from our sponsors on the Kokanee Cabin deck après.
This will be the final event of the Canadian Ski Mountaineering Cup and will count toward the ranking of racers nationally and the selection of next year’s Canadian Skimo Team.
