Valentine Surface Hoar - Alive & Well

Stayed close to home on the weekend, skiing in Yoho on the 25th and Kootenay on the 26th. The stability that let us get silly earlier in the month is sadly gone and the affects of the Valentine Surface Hoar are hard to miss under the new storm snow.

At least the new snow feels nice.

Feb 25th – Whoomphing and shooting cracks to ~20m experience at treeline northwest aspect in the O'Hara area. CTE0 Failed on the cut down 40cm. The buried surface hoar was mutating but was still 12mm.

Feb 26th – Vermilion Slide Path, extensive whoomphing, near treeline settlements would shake the snow from the burnt trees up to 60m away. Unsettling!
