November in the Rossland Range VIDEO
Conditions in the Rossland Range aren't quite as full on as other locations in the Selkirks and Rockies but they're still shaping up nicely. On Saturday we noted 100-150cm base in the alpine and around 50cm near the highway. The abundant snowfall followed by a rain episode to about 2100m settled the snowpack considerably. While it's not deep (15-20cm of pow up high), there is a good base and coverage was impressive. Significant wind has scoured south faces, but east aspects are holding the snow nicely and the steeper north faces are getting there. We noted three reactive layers similar to what's being found elsewhere albeit at lesser depths. There were easy to moderate releases at 25cm, 35cm and 40-50cm, the lower being the biggest concern. We stuck to mellow angled terrain and were pleasantly surprised with the skiing. With a nice base setting up and stability improving on these layers, all we need now is more snow! Here's a quick vid I put together from this past weekend.
