North Shore Search and Rescue is being grounded for night hoist rescues

North Shore Search and Rescue is in a fight with the province over it's ability to do night time hoist operations.  A hoist operation is were you have a cable that drops from a helicopter to the subject usually with a rescue tech and then raises the subject back to the helicopter.  A very useful system in the rescue world.  Right now the province does not want to OK the use of hoist at night.  NSSAR argues that they are just being overly cautious and that this service will and can save lives.  Time will tell if the province will come around.  Nelson SAR was in the same boat back in 2005 when we first started the more basic rescue of class D, a fixed line under the helicopter.  It took almost 10 years to get the province to finally come onboard to approve this form of rescue that is now common place in our rescue world.  All I can say is be patient and the province will most likely come onboard.
