Persistent weak layers—“spooky” avalanche conditions
Over our summer heat wave what better thing to do than get caught up on our persistent weak layers? PWLs are one of the spookiest features of avalanche forecasting. The main reason for this is that they are a low probability high consequence event. Which simply means your dog might not bite but if he does boy will it hurt. Here is some great info from Backcountry Access on PWL if you are sitting by the beach with nothing to do.
