Trail Report: Tenquille, Pemberton BC May 14 2013
I decided to hang up the ski gear and take a trip to the alpine on foot instead. Due to the super warm spring and low snowpack this year there's actually some pretty good early season hiking to be had around here.
I started the Tenquille Lake trail at the bottom of the Hurley FSR, just after the bridge, right at the valley bottom. Someone had already cleared the bottom portion of the trail with a chainsaw, about 2-3kms up so it was pretty easy going and ready for mountain biking.
Past a few kms there is still a good amount of dead fall and several large trees across the trail, but no snow. The whole area was burned in a forest fire so there's almost no shade, combined with a south facing slope to make for a dry beautiful hike. I was able to reach the snowline just before the trail forks to go to the lake on your right, or another access point via the Hurley FSR and Tenquille FSR on the left.
I called it a day there, and turned around with my dog to hike down. If you're looking for some early season training around Pemby, this is a good one!
This is the burned forest.. I saw two kinds of wild orchids and Indian Paintbrush up already - it's very pretty. Moose, deer, and bear tracks, but only saw the deer.
