Acidophilus VS. White Queen
Today we pitted the tried and true snow goddess White Queen against the massive north aspect terrain of Acidophilus - give 'em both a go and see which one had the best conditions.
Round one.
A quick ride up the Silver King Chair and 20min of left-right brings us to the vast expanse of sparsely spaced trees known as Acidophilus. You can easily find steeps and more mellower lines flowing down 1300' - these tend to hold the snow better thanks to Acidophilus's north aspect - God love the north aspect. We were sceptical of the conditions until the first turn, by the second turn we knew we had a winner - 25cm ski penetration and most of the old tracks hidden makes for a big smile.
Round two.
Having a solid crowd pleaser behind us we ventured on up to White Queen - with about a third more vert and a solid fall line pitch the entire way down we were hopeful that White Queen would be a clear winner. After the first turn we realized that Ice Queen was the more appropriate name on this day - looks like the sun had done her thing and we were survival skiing 15cm on top of frozen crud. Only 1299 more feet to go - ugh. Things turned for the better at the 1/2 way mark as the frozen crud disappeared and we managed to salvage things.
The Verdict.
On this day we will have to go with Acidophilus as the clear winner - never had a bad day in there. With another 10cm forecast things will only improve and we hope to go for a rematch on Sunday.
Ding ding.
