April 03 West Ymir
Just returned from a tour into West Ymir after the catch basin access was opened up by the Whitewater ski Patrol.
It was windy and snowing all day with 12cm reported new over night and this was the stuff that did not want to stay still. First tracks into West Ymir were great but we did experience numerous cracks, sluffs and small slides on steeper angled terrain. Only the new wind packed 12cm was moving but it was enough to pull you down if you did not have your smarts about you and look at where you were skiing first and consider your exposure and consequence.
More snow and wind on the way so will likely play it safer tomorrow and stick to the thick trees of Acidophilus and stay well away of start zones and convex rolls.
Play safe – and enjoy winters come back.
