BLACK QUEEN Dec 13 2009
Just returned for skiing Black Queen and I would love to say it was knee deep epic POW, but I cannot. I wouldn't say it was not worth the effort - but it was just not near the top 10.
We left the top of silver King chair at 9:30 and topped out on White Queen and then skied down into 5mile basin via Black Queen - and went back up for a second lap. The snow was inconsistent and had slabs in some location then 20 feet away it was 15cm of nice snow - still alot of early season obstacles showing through so you have to be careful. A hard crust in some locations and 10cm of sugar below in others. The south face coming back into the hill was much more consistent although lots of obstacles to watch out for - but much more enjoyable than the north face. A good day to condition the legs but not as good as it will be with the next system coming in on Wednesday [fingers crossed] tops up the base and make it a more memorable outing [but still well worth it!]
