Coldsmoke 2013 delivers the POW once again
Sunday was the last day of the ColdSmoke Powderfest but this has not stopped the snow from falling almost continuously at Whitewater Ski Resort near Nelson BC. With a total of 45cm of fresh over the course of the three day event (and another 11cm this am) participates and organizers alike were stoked to see Mother Nature deliver,... as she has a habit of doing.
The ROAM Rando Rally Race had an altered course given the new snow and high avalanche danger but it didn't slow the competitors down. With approximately 4500' of vert it was a virtual walk in the park for some as many times came in under the two hour mark.
The Valhalla Pure Powder Keg Slope style event was amped up by the fresh Pow as competitors knew the landings would be fluffy soft so they continually hit things big. We captured the youth category (under 18) in all their "hucking-glory" and can't wait to see how these youngsters progress over the next few years. Here is a selection of competitors from the event:
Nate sends it big.
Coda officially in the WhiteRoom.
The Backcountry Olympics was another crowd favourite with teams of three skiing up to find a transceiver then building a rescue sled and ending off with cooking an egg over a backcountry fire.
