Mount Ogden - SOAP BOX COMP
People are always looking for quick daytrip tours that aren't too crazy and can be done easily by relative newbies. This line up one side of Mount Ogden is a decent option.
My group did this one on February 2nd, 2014. Parked in the Great Divide Lodge parking lot. Track starts between the gas station and lodge. Followed a well-used skin track across Sherbrooke Lake and up lookers right of the big, obvious face off Mount Ogden. Conditions that day were very stable - it hadn't snowed in at least 2 weeks. This bowl is mostly east facing so fairly protected from the sun during the warmest parts of the day. We found the snow to be somewhat wind hammered the day we went even though it was quite calm and cool for us. Easy, quick track up and nice turns on somewhat low-angle slopes.
Crossing Sherbrooke Lake. Mount Ogden to the left. Skied obvious face in centre-right.
